Continence Management
The University Community Hospital Continence program is designed to manage stress or urge urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and other pelvic floor musculature disorders. The therapist assesses pelvic floor function, posture, abdominal strength, lumbopelvic dynamics and bowel/bladder patterns. The program involves muscle retraining through biofeedback, exercise and behavioral strategies.
The program goals include: reducing or diminishing the number of episodes of involuntary urine loss and bowel movement dysfunction, to improve the pelvic muscle function, to educate the person on the management of the disorder and overall improve the person’s quality of life.
